January 2009

A cold, frosty and grey day today, not really bright enough for any photography. A trip to Dervaig and Loch Cuin in the afternoon, on the frozen shores of the loch were 12 Ringed Plover a Redshank and a Whimbrel, about a dozen Teal, not a lot else moving. Nice to get home to a log fire and a dram (perhaps)

  1. I saw a huge flock of Starlings by Gretna today at dusk. Might try and see if my picture is worth posting on Flickr, but the conditions were a challenge!

  4. Enjoyed our holiday on Mull, saw lots of wildlife, deer and will especially remember the otter that practically ran in front of our car. And not a drop of rain all week! Beautiful clear starry skies, thanks Mullbirds...Julie.

  5. Your son directed me to your blog. Hope you don't mind if an ugly American who loves the UK follows along for awhile! Smalltown07 (at flickr)

  6. Mark: the dram (or was it two) were delicious. The Mull Bird Report for 2008 will be available around Feb/March and its front cover is shown on mullbirds site, however there are still some 2007 reports available.

  9. Love the idea of a daily blog from Mull. Our favourite, almost our only, holiday destination for the last 40 years. Its been very interesting to see Mull developing as a wildlife and birding mecca.

  11. Another Grey and damp day: Went to see my friends Pam & Arthur Brown who run 'Discover Mull' A trip to Calgary Bay produced two Great northern and one Red throated Diver, also on the hills we spotted a single Short eared Owl.

  12. We have a regular ring tail in Salen who has recently been joined by a male which is great news. Our two sea eagles are keeping us company but we have discovered they share a rock with an otter so guess they are waiting for him to drop some fish! Passing Glenforsa by the farm, 4 buzzards - large one feeding on a rabbit, the rest waiting in a queue for scraps. Pair Red breasted mergansers at Pennygown bay performing beautifully!
